Jan Vanthienen is professor of information systems and management at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium, Faculty of Business and Economics (Department of Decision Sciences and Information Management). His research interests include information and knowledge management, business rules & processes, business intelligence, information systems modeling.

The area of business rules modeling, validation and verification of business rules, and business rule automation has been his major area of research and expertise for many years. He is a founding member of the Leuven Institute for Research in Information Systems (LIRIS), and president-elect of the Benelux Association for Information Systems (BENAIS).
